Abstract
The current situation concerning HCFC-refrigerants, regulation and behaviour related to the ozone layer and the global warning problems are reviewed. The main challenges for use HFC-based and natural refrigerants with regard to the performance optimization of refrigeration, including the environmental aspects, research and technological development are discussed.
